A hands-on STEAM experience for Years 4–5.
What if you could unlock the colours hidden in light?
Discover the science of light, colour and digital technology through fascinating, hands-on experiments that reveal how colours combine and how pixels bring our screens to life.
We see colour everywhere, but have you ever stopped to think about what’s actually happening?
How can white light contain all the colours of the rainbow? Can red, green and blue light combine to make white? And how do tiny pixels on a screen create the millions of colours we see every day?
In Chroma: Light and Sound, students explore these questions through hands-on experiments that reveal the science of light, colour and digital technology.
The challenge: Can you mix red, green and blue light to make white?
How your eye sees colour”. Coloured light rays pass through the lens and meet at the retina. A magnified circle shows red, green and blue cone cells
Make white light from three colours”. Red, green and blue circles overlap to make yellow, magenta, cyan and a white centre
Screens are made of pixels”. It’s a grid of zoomed-in pixels, each with red, green and blue bars. The lit ones form a magenta heart, so you can see magenta is only the red and blue bars on.

Jeremy brings a rich background in programming, sound engineering, physics presentation and science education—but the real teacher in these workshops is curiosity.
The goal isn’t simply to give children more facts.
It’s to help them discover:
✨ Find the miracles in the mundane.
🔬 See the science hiding in plain sight.
💡 Discover that ideas, reason and imagination can change what is possible.
